A visit to Ngwenya Mine, in the southern end of Malolotja Nature Reserves can include viewing Lion Cavern, the world's oldest mine, the dramatic views of Ngwenya Iron Ore Mine, the more recent mining of iron ore, and an informative browse through the Visitor Centre.
Mlawula, Malolotja and Mantenga Nature Reserves all have a wide diversity of flora and fauna, as a result of their geology, topography and climate, Malolotja including highveld mountains and valleys, Mantenga a transition from highveld to middleveld, and Mlawula including lowveld and the Lubombo mountains.
Malolotja Nature Reserve is known for it's wild flowers, including rare and unusual plants. A visit in springtime offers the opportunity to see the display of spring flowers. Mlawula's flora is similarly diverse, and of particular note are the Lebombo Ironwood forests, with the rare cycad, Encephalartos striatus.
