The King visited a battleship in Lorenco Marques (now Maputo, in Mozambique) with his princesses. The man in the white peaked cap is Lord Packer, Admiral of the Fleet, his wife is in the background. They later visited Swaziland, Lady Packer wrote a book about her African experiences. The King was widely held to embody not only the spirit of a lion, by his subjects, but to physically resemble one too.
