Photo No. 41

First Swazi Nuns, 1939, Mater Dolorosa Catholic Mission. The first seven Swazi Servite Sisters photographed in 1939. They went out to teach in Catholic schools. The British Government presumed that Swaziland would be incorporated into South Africa at some time, and left the building of Government schools to the South Africans. As a result education was almost entirely Christian.
