Original caption (on back) "Sonny Pearsonand Girlie. Sonny murdered by Natives. 1899". Sonny was in fact the victim of ritual murder as a baby and was partially dismembered, having his limbs and genitals removed.

The Holtmans and Bothmas at Namahasha. This is Holtman's house, he tried growing coffee at Namahasha before the Boer War in partnership with David Forbes and Allister Miller. Despite him being a trained horticulturalist, the crop failed. His experiments with wattle and gum were more successful. From left: Louise and Abraham Karel Bothma, unkown man with armband, unknown woman, Jan Bothma seated, Isabella Bothma standing, Henry Anton Holtman sitting.

Presumably John H. Johnstone who claimed to having been a major in the British Army. He had a concession to grow, dry, cure, sell and export tobacco. He also had a concession to 65 992 hectares of bushveldt land.
