Malolotja Nature Reserve - FaunaNumbers of species or subspecies in the major taxonomic groups recorded or possibly occurring in Malolotja Nature Reserve are shown below:
Alien species are generally restricted to straying livestock, dogs and cats from neighbouring areas, although there is a herd of goats which has been present since the reserve was established. Determination of priority species for conservation is hampered by the poor level of knowledge of their status. However, a provisional list of priority species has been drawn up, based on listings in southern African Red Data Book species and on regional distributions and rarity, which includes 7 fish species, 9 reptiles, 5 amphibians, 16 birds and 15 mammals. |
