1921, Gwamile Abdicating. The Queen Regent Gwamile (also known as Labotsibeni) dominated Swazi politics for three decades. A highly competant and charismatic woman, she tried to redress the land question as well as sort out some of the mess from the Concession era. She oversaw the education of her grandson, Sobhuza II. She abdicated in his favour in 1921 and died four years later. (Photo: Dawson family)
