Pastinaca sativa *   (Parsnip)
     Edible root
Pavetta edentula    (Large-leaved Bride's Bush)  samunyane,  sawoti,  simunyane,  umgcobagcobane,  umgcobagcobane,  umkhwevane,  umkwevane,
     Edible leaves & fruit. But Zulus will not eat the fruit of any Pavetta.
Pavetta lanceolata    (Weeping Bride's Bush)
     Edible leaves taste like watercress.
Pavetta zeyheri    (Christmas Bush)
     Edible leaves.
Pennisetum purpureum *   (Elephant Grass)
     Edible young leaves and shoots.
Pennisetum thunbergii    (Pearl Millet)  bhabhala,
     Edible grain. A commercial crop.
Pentarrhinum abyssinicum    (African Heartvine)  umdzandzabuka,
     Edible leaves & fruit. Widely used food source in Southern Africa.
Pentodon pentandrus   
     Well cooked leaves may be a famine food.
Pergularia daemia var. daemia    (Trellis Vine)  umdzandzabuka,
     Edible leaves
Persea americana *   (Avocado)  likotapeni,  umkotapeni,
     Edible fruit. Some people are allergic.

Phoenix reclinata    (Wild Date Palm)  isundu,  lilala,  lisundvu,  lusundvu,
     Edible fruit & leaves. Sap for beer/cider, usually drunk in the forest.
Phragmites australis    (Common Reed)  lishane,  umklanga,
     Edible rhizomes
Phyllanthus myrtaceus   
     Edible white berries.
Physalis angulata *   (Cape Gooseberry)
     Edible fruit
Physalis peruviana *   (Cape Gooseberry)
     Edible fruit. Delicious jam. Leaves and unripe fruits are poisonous.

     Edible fruit
