10/4/2010 Topic: Gyneology/Finding my roots
Good day,
I am trying to trace my roots and find my ancestors. What i know is that my partenal grandfather (Mlangeni) hails from a place called Hlathikhulu Sishelweni in Swaziland and some of his family is in a place called Nhlangano. My father was conceived and born in South africa and all he knows are the clan praises as my grandfather died when he was 13 in 1959. Apperantly my grandmother was never really accepted by the Mlangeni clan in Swaziland because she was Xhosa hence she and my father never went often with my grandfather to Swaziland.
I need to know if there is a place where I can go to in Swaziland that could have a geneological history if i have peoples names and villages?
Please help, I need to find them. I have to find them. For years since I was a teenager I have been told I must find my ancestors for rituals. I was named after my great grand father I am told.

4/26/2009 Topic: Condition of Mlawula Nature Reserve
Last weekend my wife and I had the pleasure of visiting Mlawula Nature Reserve for the second time. Mlawula has to be one of Southern Africa's best Nature Reserves and is truly beautiful, peaceful and a wonderful place to restore body and soul.
Unfortunately the tents in the Sara tented camp are in a poor condition, with broken zips, tears and generally a poor state of maintenance. The tent where we stayed last year was in poor shape and has been removed completely this year. Likewise, the toilets in the camp were in poor shape. In addition the chairs in the Lapa were broken to the point that they are no longer comfortable.
Apart from that, the staff were extremely helpful and knowledgable regarding the reserve and we are already planning to return.

Response: If you have appropriate links and/or documents which would be relevant, please let us know!

I am quite impressed with the work on the data base and i hope it is an ongoing project because i am sure we have more biodiversity than what it reflects presently. For those plants which have restricted ranges, and the rare ones, is there any monitoring programme in place. For example, a volunteer group could be set up to do this kind of task as CREW does in South Africa.

Response: The development of the database is an ongoing project, and any contributions towards it would be welcome!

I am amazed of the wealth of information that is on this website, in as much as I agree that there is still a lot of work to be done, but this is commendable. We are seeing a side of Swaziland with regards to nature and its beauty outside what we are known for, "Umhlanga" or "Reed Dance", where I am now those who know about our beautiful country will tell you largely about the ceremony. Its a good start.

There simply isn`t enough material published over Swaziland. What a shame!
Perhaps this is something you should be addressing nationally/ globally; trying to promote an active interest in Swaziland`s cultural heritage.
Do bare in mind that there are several well educated and well informed history (or other) teachers in Swaziland, who would be valuable in providing accurate information. Also, there are enough financial rewards globally for Good Quality information.
To date, Swaziland is performing very badly at every single level; Educationally, politically + economically, and even culturally. So I applaud you for your efforts, but it simply just isn`t enough. There`s so much more needed.....
Response: Thanks for your feedback. We will endeavour to continue to update and expand the information available on this website.
