SWAZILAND'S BIODIVERSITY: Swaziland's Fishes Checklists

Information from "An Annotated Checklist of the Freshwater Fishes of Swaziland", E.J. Hyslop, 1994, updated with information from Richard Boycott, 2006, incorporating information from the 2002-2003 fishes survey.

Swaziland's Fishes Checklist

Lepomis macrochirus  (Rafinesque, 1819)

   Centrarhidae (Black basses and sunfishes)
   (Bluegill Sunfish)
   Exotic
Introduced in 1939 and reported established in 1940 (Clay 1972). No records in subsequent survey (Clay 1976) and current investigations failed to locate specimens. Presumed extinct.
