Plant Description: Plant: Rooted aquatic plant usually completely submerged except for the leafless flowering shoots; stems up to 3 m long; roots are few and small on the lower parts of the stems. Leaves: Olive-green, finely divided and arranged in whorls of 4–6. Flowers: Cream, small, 1.6–1.8 mm long, female and male, arranged in whorls on emergent spikes 50–100 mm long, late summer to early autumn (March–May). Fruit: Small nuts about 3 mm in diameter.
